Henlake Canal
Part of 'The Cleeve Tram Line'
< Back to
'The Cleeve Tram Line'
Henlake Canal is a later addition to the Tram Line
set of boxes and lengthens the set to five boxes. It sits between Leigh
Mill and The Village Square.
Having started my first box, 'Box Valley' with a
canal, and then again with the winter version of that scene I wanted to
make another water scene but this time with the canal running left to
right instead of back to front.
It's actually turned out to be a fairly simple
scene with just two buildings next to the canal.
The Boatman pub is a Metcalfe Workers Cottage kit
with a converted barn from the Crofters Cottage kit as an extension,
the front part was then scratch built. The Lock Keepers Cottage was
originally going to be the other half of the Crofters Cottage kit, but
I decided it was just a bit too small so instead built it from scratch.
The canal has been created by leaving a gap in the
5mm foam board base. Another layer of foam board was then added to the
right side to raise the area up enough to create the canal lock. The
canal, like most of my water features is various dabs of emulsion paint
with many layers of yacht varnish. The two barges are identical 3D
prints, however I added the coal to one and a canvas tent cover (it's
card!) to the other.
The track runs along the back of the box and has
cobble insets (again it's card, but this time very thin card). At the
rear the ground slopes to the back of the box with several trees added.
The pub garden, very popular with the locals, has
3D printed benches and tables and several ornamental trees.
There are no power inputs to this box as it forms
part of one single tram line powered from The Cleeve Town box.
