The Purple Line

Purple Line Track Plan

The Purple Line is something of a labour of love and something of a tribute act! If you've read the About Me page then you will know that I am a bit of a fan of the British Rock band Deep Purple (a bit?!). I've been hooked on them for the past 50+ years! So this is my attempt to combine my love of them and their music with my love of model railways.

Every band member (and their have been many) gets a mention somewhere, including a few jokes if you know the band. There are also a few names of albums and songs in there.

Up until I attempted to make this set of boxes things have gone generally well.... this one was a different story! It was orginally six boxes long with a two box farm in the middle, and tracks that split to the top and bottom of the boxes at either end. Having made it all, I discovered the boxes I've used are not the usual type, quite flimsy, and trying to join two track across them was a non-starter (especially at speed if was to show them at exhibitions) so it got changed to a single length of track. Then the farm section, which had a passing loop, and the power inputs failed completely! That's now been removed, with a plan to create a fifth box with a smaller farm at a later date. For the interim period there is now a somewhat unique (for me) Bridge module that links two of the boxes. Given it is now just one length of track running end to end, I may decide to add a shuttle unit to automate it, but that's for another day.
