New Gloverton On Sea
Part of 'The Purple Line'
< Back to 'The Purple Line'
New Gloverton On Sea is a sort of replacement for
Gloverton. When
McBride's Farm was added, the
track was made to exit the left side at the rear of the box,
deliberately so to create a dual track terminus to end the line.
New Gloverton is that end station.
The scene is a typical seaside town. At the back is a road
with large hotel that is now a part of the Premier Inn group.
The road stops and is now paved over. There is an old half
timber shop and just along a bit further, a large old building
that is now a Wetherspoons pub, 'The Son Of Alerik'. Both the
pub and hotel are scratch built.
The railway ends here with a two line terminus station. The
platform is a triangle shape with scratched canopy, the station
building is somewhat 'off-scene' represented by just a flat
picture.
The front of the box sees a small section of beach with
sunbathers taking advantage of the weather. The coast road runs
along it and on the other side is an old warehouse building
converted into Morse's Wine Bar with The Fireball Night Club
above it. Next to this is the Bright & Airey B&B. Both buildings
are Metcalfe kits, the wine bar has been heavily modified from
the original. To finish the scene are three very small cottages
forming part of a row of holiday lets. Railway Modeller magazine
gave away a free Metcalfe Tiny Cottage kit but only in OO, so I
scanned and resized it to N gauge and created the three that are
in the box.
The backscene photo is of Tunbridge Wells in Kent. A view
across the town from the common, the additional road coming off
London Road has been photo shopped on!
