Leigh Mill
Part of 'The Cleeve Tram Line'
< Back to 'The
Cleeve Tram Line'
Leigh Mill is a country scene with the open track tram line
passing between hillside cuttings as it weaves from the back to
the front of the box. This means it differs from all the other
boxes as it has it's entry/exits at both the front and back
points of the box, giving more variety when viewed.
The front part of the box depicts a small stable and paddock
area with the owners cottage next to it. A river runs from front
to back with a small wodden bridge for the tram to cross. A
couple of fishermen sit on the river path for a relaxing day.
The
back of the box has one of my favourite parts of any of the
boxes so far - The Watermill. This has been built from scratch
(including the wheel) using Metcalfe's builder sheets, along
with a roof from downloaded 'Wordsworth Models' website (this
had to be resized for N Gauge as it is only produced at OO
scale).
The Mill was inspired by Mapledurham Mill in Oxfordshire.
This has been featured on TV (Midsomer Murders and Inspector
Morse amongst many) and various films, most famously in 'The
Eagle Has Landed'. It was also used on the iconic cover of the
first Black Sabbath album back in 1970.... The lady in black
from that cover art is replicated in the box file!
The track is just two Peco Setrack curves laid opposite ways
to each other. There is no direct power supply to this box as
it forms part of the entire tram line.
