PrinceTor
(Mini-Micro Layout)
< Back to Micro Layouts
PrinceTor represents a small ficticous end of line station
somewhere on Dartmoor in Devon.
The board for this one is just 26"x4.5". A case of I had a
spare bit of MDF and a few odd bits of track.... what
shall I make?
Effectively it's a small and simple shunting layout. A single
'fiddle' line sits behind a scenic board that blends with the
main backscene. Trains can pop in to the passenger platform, or
into the goods sidings.
There is a headshunt siding that serves the small factory.
All the buildings are scratch built, the station building is
very low relief, something you can't buy commercially so no
choice but to make it myself. The signal box is almost full
relief. The factory buildings, again low-relief were designed
after looking at several photos on the net.
The track is Peco, with the three points being operated via
wire-in-tube from the front of the layout, the small grass mound
acts as a cover to the tubes. The controls are also at the front
to the right side of the board. Just the sockets for the banana
plugged controller and two switches, one for the fiddle line and
one to power the headshunt etc.
Despite it's incredibly small size, it's possible to use two
locos for operations.
