The Old Mine
(Micro Layout)
< Back to Micro Layouts
The Old Mine was a long time coming! My first attempt at a
Micro Layout. It went through several different track layouts
before settling on what you now see.... and sat on the side in
it's very early stages for a couple of years. Then COVID came
along and we all had hours to fill, so this became a lockdown
project.
It measures 30"x19.5", packing a lot into a very small space.
Basically an oval with a siding and and a longer branch up the
hill to a second station.
The Tin Mine sits atop the hill on the right-hand side. It's
a
self designed 3D printed model, after I attended a short 3D
Printing course, it was the end product.
The layout depicts a very typical English village, with a
church, pub and school, as well as the traditional village
square complete with a market. The Vicarage has beehives in the
garden, whilst it's washing day with clothes on the line in
another of the cottage gardens.
All the buildings have lights by way of a string of LEDs
running under the board between them. All the street lights also
light up, along with working belisha beacons at the zebra
crossing.
Apart from the Tin Mine, all the buildings are Metcalfe kits,
with the Post Office being scratch built from Metcalfe Builder
Sheets.
The top section is due for a track change when I find some
time, and will add a second line to the station area
I've recently introduced the layout to the exhibition circuit
where it has received a very positive reception.
