Pukkaton Harbour
Part of 'The Ivy Line'
< Back to 'The Ivy Line'
Pukkaton Harbour was the second box I made, following on from
Box Valley. It also formed part of a Pandemic Lockdown project
along with a couple of other railway layouts.
It started life as a stand-alone box, with small 'stick
fiddle yard' coming out from one end. It existed that way for a
couple of years prior to 'The Ivy Line' coming along, but once
I'd decided to build the row of boxes it made sense that it
become part of that project.
Pukkaton Harbour forms the far end of 'The Ivy Line' and
represents a small harbour town with a railway station and goods
yard.
To create the depth of the harbour walls two foam board
sheets were fitted on top of each other for the rest of the
boxes 'baseboard'. Most of the other boxes use just one sheet,
thus this one created a small headache regards the height of
things and chimneys.
To the rear of the box is a signal box, a row of houses and
'The Village Lantern' pub. These lead to the station building.
The station has a single platform and the station building
has hanging baskets - These were originally made when a friend
who modeled in OO suggested it would not be possible in N....

The goods yard has a small goods shed along with a coal
office and stathes.
Around the quayside are cottages and the Harbour Masters
office. There is a small jetty with fisherman hoping to catch a big
one! The harbour has a fishing trawler and trawlermen.
The low relief terrace houses, cottages and station building
are Metcalfe kits, although the pub section has been added by
myself. The Station Building is actually the waiting room from
Metcalfe's country station kit, but it's just the right size
here. The cottage chimneys have been trimmed down so the box lid
shuts and the terrace house as such don't have any. However, by
sheer luck the backscene has chimneys in just the right
position!
The signal box, goods shed and harbour masters office were
all built from scratch using Metcalfe card.
The trawler is from a gift shop in Cadgwith Cove!
All the track is by Peco with the points operated via wire in
tube from the rear of the box.
So, why is it called Pukkerton Harbour? Well, it's built in a
foolscap boxfile that is made by... Pukka!
