Town & Country
< Back to Individual Boxes
'Town & Country' is exactly what it says.... one half of the
box country, the other town. The two halves are split by an aquaduct.
The railway oval runs around the box going under the brick
built aquaduct.
The left-hand side of the box depicts a small farm with barns
and a small farm house/cottage. In one corner is the station,
whilst the other corner is home to a small hay barn, pig sty and
pigs.
The right-hand side is the town. Here we have the local pub,
a newsagent and the fish & chip shop. In the corners are a low-relief
block of flats and a factory/warehouse.
Running through the middle of the box, front to back is the
aquaduct with a coal barge working it's way along the canal.
The pub and shops are Metcalfe kits that have been converted
from Terrace House kits and adapted to fit the box. Everything else is scratch built using
Metcalfe card.
One of the farm barns is based upon the stable building from
what was Princetown station. The real one is the only surviving
building of the railway there. The plan was taken from The
Railway Modeller's plan of the month feature, but scaled down to
N gauge from the the OO drawings.
The low-relief flats are self designed using card and then
painted with emulsion for the cement effect. The factory building
is again designed from scratch, the small hoist is made from an
old broken Ratio crane kit
The water on the aquaduct was created by using a mix of
emulsion paint colours, dried, and then covered with around
seven plus coats of yacht varnish. The barge is a 3D printed model
off the internet, and then painted.
Either a Terrier loco or 04 Shunter runs around the track
with a couple of wagons.
