2024

Hayle Model Railway Exhibition

  • Saturday 16/Sunday 17 November 2024
  • Hayle Daycare Centre, Commercial Road, Hayle, TR27 4DE
  • Organiser: Hayle Railway Modellers
  • Two day exhibition. The Hayle Railway Modellers Club is without doubt one of the friendliest groups we've met over the past 18 months of doing these shows. Most of the layouts were by club members with Moor Boxes being one of only three or four non-club exhibitors. It was fairly quiet but we met a lot of people who we've met at other shows as well as here last year. Good pasties for lunch!

Cornwall Model Railway Exhibition

  • Carn Brae Leisure Centre, Pool, Redruth
  • 3 November
  • One day show in a large sports hall
  • Much better than the 2023 show, with a lot more layouts on display and of a good standard. Being organised by the Cornish O Gauge Group there a lot of O Gauge layouts. Moor Boxes along with the excellent Newvaddon Parkway being the only N Gauge sets there.
  • I forgot to put all our table cloths in the car! So the display was a bit naked, none-the-less it didn't seem to stop a lot of enthusiasm for the boxes.

Taunton RailEx 2024

  • Taunton School, Stapleford Road, Taunton, Somerset
  • 26/27 October
  • One of the largest exhibitions in the South-West and billed as 'The Best In The West'. Certainly lived up to expectations.
  • Moor Boxes were located in the Old Library.
  • So many good conversations with people! Lots of interest on both days.
  • 2025 looks promising too!

Sidmouth Model Railway Exhibition

  • Sidford Social Hall, Sidmouth, Devon
  • October
  • We was invited to attend after group members saw us at our first ever show at Exeter in 2023.
  • Really good little exhibition with a lot packed into the village hall. Fairly well attended and the boxes were very well received by a friendly and chatty public. The club members seemed very pleased for us to be there.
  • The second of two exhibitions attended over one weekend (see also Yealmpton)

Yealmpton Exhibition

  • TYealmpton Primary School and Resource Centre, Devon
  • October
  • Organised every year by Chris's Crafts and Model Railways. A return visit, again with more boxes than the previous year. There were more layouts here than last year. It was better attended than 2023 which was again surprising as it is not widely advertised.
  • The first of two exhibitions attended over one weekend (see also Sidmouth)

Spa Valley Model Railway Exhibition

  • Tunbridge Wells West Station, Kent
  • September
  • 2 day show
  • Another 'return visit'. This time we were situated in the Booking Hall, so all who came in saw Moor Boxes. Early figures suggest attendance for the two days was over 1600.

Exeter Model Railway Exhibition

  • Matford Centre, Exeter, Devon
  • June
  • 2 Day show
  • The first ever 'return visit' for Moor Boxes! This was the venue for our first exhibition back in July 2023. Back then we were somewhat unsure of ourselves and displayed on an 8' length table. This time it was 14' with twice as many boxes as back then, and this time we had a rough idea how it all worked! We were placed pretty much in the centre of the hall with plenty of space for people to view the boxes. One of the nicest comments we've ever received was 'I've paid a tenner to get in, I don't need to see anything else, this is worth all of it', you meet some really nice people at these events is all can say to that. Well known Model Railway youTuber Dawn Quest was also at the show with her 'Brief Encounter' black & white layout. She did a few interviews for her Model Railway Quest youTube channel, including with myself.

The Great Cornish Model Show

  • Pool Academy, Redruth
  • April
  • 2 day show
  • Organised by the Helston & Falmouth Model Railway Club. A two day show that features not only Model Railways but also other types of modelling from tanks to spaceships, dolls houses to boats... It's big with lots going on. We took our largest display so far and received a huge amount of interest. A good video was made by someone and uploaded to youTube.

2023

The Rattery Little Train Show

  • Rattery, Devon
  • December
  • This was one day exhibition with all funds going to the village community. The organiser expected around 150-200 people, but got 500 plus all the children! Quite possibly the most fun we've had an exhibition.

Hayle Model Railway Exhibition

  • Hayle Daycare Centre, Cornwall
  • November
  • 2 day show
  • The club hosts a regular event in May each year, but decided to give a second show a try. Like their May show this one was over two days. It was deemed a success and a second November show is planned for 2024... Moor Boxes will be there again! The club made a video of the exhibition and put it on youTube.

Cornwall Model Railway Exhibition

  • Carn Brae Leaisure Centre, Redruth
  • October
  • This was one day exhibition held in a large hall, part of the leisure complex. According to Cathy - She saw Cliff Richard play in the same hall a 'few' years ago... so I can now claim to have played in the same venue as Sir Cliff! Organised by the Cornwall O Gauge Group. This particular year there wasn't quite so much on display as when we've visited as paying customers other years.

Yealmpton Model Railway Exhibition

  • Yealmpton Primary School and Resource Centre, Devon
  • October
  • Organised every year by Chris's Crafts and Model Railways. This is a small show but gets fairly good attendence, especially as it's not advertised that much outside of the shop! We got a good spot in a corner of the main hall and took along the little village micro (The Old Mine) as well as the boxes.

Spa Valley Model Railway Exhibition

  • Tunbridge Wells, Kent
  • September
  • 2 day show
  • The furthest the boxes have travelled so far. The two day exhibition takes place in a large Victorian Engine shed at the heritage lines West Station. We was originally going to be at Eridge Station but fortunately space was found in the shed. As it was a bit tight, we had to operate from the front of the tables rather than the preferred behind position. Tight being the operative word! We caused a bit of a bottleneck at times as so many people wanted to see the boxes.

Exeter Model Railway Exhibition

  • Matford Centre, Exeter, Devon
  • July
  • 2 day show
  • Our first ever exhibition... Might as well start big! Two day exhibition in a building used as a cattle market the rest of the week. Probably the largest exhibition in Devon and Cornwall. We had no real idea of what to expect or how people would react to the boxes. Turns out everyone likes them! Quite an emotional journey, from saying I'd never show my hobby to actually doing it.... and loving every moment!
